James M. King is a pastor with over thirty years experience in churches of varying sizes Most recently he pastored Wieuca Road Baptist Church in Atlanta for ten years. Prior to that tenure, he pastored the First Baptist Church of Aiken, and, following seminary, he pastored Chapin Baptist Church, both in South Carolina.
Dr. King is the son of John R. and Ruth King of Belton, South Carolina. He grew up in a family of six sons, all very active in Baptist churches. Two of his brothers are also pastors. He made his profession of faith in his home one night after a revival service when he was nine years old. He answered the call to full-time ministry at the age of seventeen while a counselor at the S.C. Royal Ambassador camp.
During his college days at the University of South Carolina, Dr. King met his future wife, Linda, while attending First Baptist Church of Columbia. They were married in May of 1973, and moved three months later to Louisville, Kentucky for study at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Dr. King received the Master of Divinity degree in 1975, the Master of Theology degree in Christian Preaching in 1977, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Historical Theology in 1980.
Linda is head of the math department at Duluth Middle School. The Kings have three grown children, Matt , Alex and Elizabeth.
The Kings are residents of Duluth. They have lived for the past thirteen years in the Berkeley Walk subdivision and have been active in school and community activities.
